Industrial Pipe Shelves

Want to make some heavy duty shelves?  Well these should hold up to the task, pun intended. I made this set of shelves using only some industrial pipe and lumber from the local hardware store.
Here is a simple sketch and list of parts that I purchased.

I started with the overall design which has five shelves that are 3 ft. wide.  I ran pipe through the front two corners of each shelf in the location shown (approx 3 in. from the side and 2.25 in. from the front). I drilled the holes using a  1  1/8″ spade bit.  This is perfect for the 3/4″ pipe, but will need to be adjusted if you plan on using a smaller diameter pipe.   Each shelf is braced using an extension out the back of the Tee with an Elbow on the end.   This helps support the rear of the shelf.

Below shows all the parts required:

(4)  3/4″ Floor Flange
(10)  3/4″ Tees
(12)  3/4″ Elbows
(4)   3/4″ x 6″ pipe
(2)   3/4″ x 8″ pipe
(6)   3/4″ x 12″ pipe
(2)   3/4″ x 18″ pipe
(10) 3/4″ x 5″ pipe
(2) 2″ x 12″ x 10 ft.  (cut into five 3 ft. pieces)

Contruction was pretty straight forward, but I had to use a couple of pipe wrenches in order to tighten/loosen some of the connections.   I screwed the upper flanges into the wall studs.  Overall, these are pretty simple shelves that can be completely redesigned to suit the user.
